How pay-per-minute video chat works

The meter, the coins and the moments that matter — so you always know what a call will cost before it starts.

Quick answer

With pay-per-minute video chat you top up a balance (on FlirtCam, coins), then spend it only while you are on a billable call. Each call has a rate in coins per minute that you see before connecting. Cost = paid minutes × rate. Hang up and the meter stops.

The basic idea

Pay-per-minute is the oldest and most transparent way to pay for live conversation: you are charged for the time you actually spend talking, nothing more. There is no monthly fee quietly renewing in the background, and no bundle of minutes that expires before you use it. If you make one five-minute call this month, you pay for five minutes.

The model suits one-on-one video chat particularly well. Every call is different — sometimes you click with someone and talk for twenty minutes, sometimes you say hi and move on — so paying for what you use keeps the cost proportional to the fun you are having.

Coins and balance

Most services, FlirtCam included, do not charge your card every minute. Instead you buy a pack of coins up front and the call draws from that balance. On FlirtCam, coin packs are listed on the in-app payment page in your local currency, and some include bonus coins. Your balance is always visible in the app and updates after every call.

Coins are simply the unit of account. They make it possible to show one clear rate per call, whatever currency you paid in, and they let you top up quickly in the middle of a conversation without re-entering anything.

Who sets the rate

On FlirtCam there are two kinds of calls, and each shows its rate before you connect:

Call typeWhere you see the rateWhat affects it
Direct call to a hostOn the host’s profile, in coins per minuteEach host has her own rate; some hosts accept free calls
Random matchOn the match screenYour account tier: new account, topped-up account or VIP

Because rates vary between hosts and tiers, a reputable service shows the number at the point of decision rather than printing one headline price. If a service will not tell you the rate before the camera comes on, treat that as a red flag.

When the meter runs

This is the question that matters most, and the answer should never be a surprise. On a direct call, billing applies while you are connected. Random matches on FlirtCam can open with a free window: the call screen shows a countdown, posts a notice a few seconds before per-minute billing begins, and then restarts the call timer from 00:01 so you can see exactly where paid time started.

If your account has free matches, the match screen also shows how many you have left. They are a good way to try a few conversations before spending anything.

Billing stops when the call ends — whether you hang up, tap Next on a random match, or the other person leaves.

When your balance runs low

Running out mid-conversation is the classic pay-per-minute annoyance, so good services warn you first. On FlirtCam, when your coins are running low during a call, an Extend call prompt appears so you can top up in a tap. You may also see a limited-time offer on a coin pack. If you ignore the prompts, the call simply ends when your balance does.

A worked example

Imagine a random match that opens with a free window, followed by a conversation that goes well:

  1. The match connects. The countdown shows the free window — you chat at no cost.
  2. A few seconds before it ends, a notice says billing is about to start. You decide to keep talking.
  3. The timer restarts at 00:01. You talk for 8 more minutes at the rate shown on the match screen, call it R.
  4. You hang up. Coins spent: 8 × R. The free window cost nothing.

Coins spent = paid minutes × rate. That is the whole formula — no connection fee, no hidden extras on top of the rate you were shown.

Staying on budget

  • Decide how many coins you want to spend this week before you start, then buy a pack that fits.
  • Read the rate every time — it can differ between hosts and between random and direct calls.
  • Use free matches and free windows to find people you click with.
  • Send a message first. A short text chat helps you decide whether a call is worth it.
  • Keep an eye on the call timer and hang up when you are ready. There is no penalty for ending early.

Pros and cons of pay-per-minute

Why people like it

You only pay for time you use, the cost of each call is predictable, and there is nothing to cancel. It also keeps attention focused: both sides know the time is valuable.

What to watch for

Long calls add up, and it is easy to lose track of time when a conversation is fun. Heavy users may prefer a membership — compare in our credits vs subscriptions guide.
